Canadian Paralympic Gold Medalist Paul Rosen To Attend 23rd Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup
MOUNT PEARL, NL — Irving Oil is pleased to announce that Paul Rosen will be the keynote speaker at the 23rd Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup awards banquet, taking place in Mount Pearl, NL on April 5. Rosen represented Canada on the National Sledge Hockey Team during the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
Originally from Thornhill Ontario, Paul Rosen was a promising Midget AAA hockey player before falling and breaking his leg in fourteen places during a tournament. After enduring countless surgeries over a twenty-four year period, Paul eventually lost his leg below the knee to a life threatening infection.
Soon after rehabilitation, and determined to follow his passion for hockey, Rosen earned a spot on the Canadian National Sledge Hockey Team. In 2006, he won a gold medal for Canada at the Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy.
“’No’, is a word I never use,” says Rosen. “If you believe in yourself and never give up, you can accomplish great things; I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with these talented young athletes and encouraging them to follow their dreams.”
“Paul Rosen upholds many of the values that are important to us at Irving Oil: perseverance, dedication and hard work. He’s a terrific role model to young athletes everywhere,” says Paul Browning, President & CEO of Irving Oil. “As a proud supporter of youth sport across Atlantic Canada, we’re looking forward to hearing his story and experiencing the very best in Bantam AAA hockey in Mount Pearl next month.”
“Paul Rosen is an inspiration for our young players and all Canadians,” says Wally O’Neill, Irving Oil Challenge Host Committee Chair. “We know that our young athletes will appreciate and be inspired by his life story.”
The Challenge Cup is the largest Bantam AAA hockey tournament in Atlantic Canada and takes place April 3 – 6 at the Glacier Arena in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador.
