No flames or sparks

Immediately put out all smoking materials and other open flames. Do not operate lights, telephones or mobile devices, including cell phones. Flames or sparks from these sources can trigger an explosion or fire.

Leave the area

Have everyone evacuated immediately from the building or area where you suspect propane is leaking, if your carbon monoxide detector has activated, or if you suspect a carbon monoxide buildup. Stay away and only return to the building or area when the local fire department and your Irving Energy Technician determine it is safe to do so.

Shut it off

If it is safe to do so, turn off the main supply valve on your propane tank. To close the valve, turn it to the right (clockwise).

Let someone know

From a safe location away from the gas leak, call your local fire department or dial 911 first, then call our Irving Energy team at 1.888.310.1924.

Before you attempt to use any of your propane appliances, have an Irving Energy Technician check your system to ensure it is leak-free.

Before winter arrives, have an Irving Energy technician clean and service your home heating equipment. It is recommended that you have your system cleaned each year.

A­fter winter arrives, clean snow and ice from tanks, regulators, appliance vents, piping, tubing and valves, being careful not to damage the tank or system components. A broom works well.

If you see damage to the lines or if your tank has shifted position, turn off the main

gas or oil supply valve to your tank, if it is safe to do so. Once the supply valve has been turned off, call us at 1.888.310.1924 for further assistance.

Most likely, it is because the path to your tank is obstructed and could be unsafe for our driver to complete the delivery. By maintaining a clear path to your tank, you will help ensure safe delivery of your heating fuel.

Are you renovating your home or landscaping your property?

Digging during renovations could damage your underground propane lines, telephone, hydro and cable TV wires, as well as water and sewer connections. This could cut off service not just to your home, but to the entire neighbourhood and cause a safety risk to yourself and others.
