Irving Oil Awards Nearly $40,000 to Five Community Organizations in Eastern Canada and New England
Each organization earns funding to support their missions in education, the environment, and local communities
PORTSMOUTH, NH — Irving Oil has awarded nearly $40,000 to five local community organizations throughout Eastern Canada and New England. Organizations sent in proposals to Irving to apply for a grant and five were selected to have their requests fully funded.
“We’re very pleased to assist these great organizations as they continue to positively impact our communities,” said Harry Hadiaris, General Manager of Irving Oil Marketing. “It is a privilege to support their impressive missions and we thank them for their services.”
The following five organizations each received funding:
Children’s Friend- Providence, RI
Children’s Friend is Rhode Island’s first child-serving nonprofit agency, providing services for children and families in need for 178 years. The mission of Children’s Friend is to promote the well-being and healthy development of Rhode Island’s most vulnerable children by providing flexible, effective, and culturally-relevant services that support and strengthen families and communities. With sites in Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls, their goal is to ensure that vulnerable, young children arrive at school ready to learn and succeed. Irving will be supporting their Inclusion to Preschoolers with Disabilities Initiative which supports successful education.
Spectrum Youth & Family Services- Burlington, VT
Since 1970, Spectrum has been a recognized leader in homeless youth programs. Their mission is to empower teenagers, young adults, and people with a history of violence, along with their families, to make and sustain positive changes through prevention, intervention, and life skills services. It has grown into a multi-faceted organization offering programs and services in housing, employment training, healthcare, mentoring, substance abuse, and domestic violence intervention, education, and prevention. Irving will be supporting their Youth Development Program.
Mystic Valley Elder Services- Malden, MA
Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES), a private, non-profit organization founded in 1975, assists over 10,000 individuals annually in eight communities north of Boston. MVES’ service area includes Malden, Everett, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, and Wakefield. The mission of MVES is to support the right of elders to live independently with dignity in a setting of their own choice by providing information, advice, and access to quality services and resources. Irving will be supporting their Elder Independence Fund.
Boys & Girls Clubs of St. John’s- St. John’s, NL
The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. John’s, established in 1946, is a youth-serving, non-profit, charitable organization operating from two locations in the St. John's area. Their overall goal is to deliver accessible, quality programs and services to targeted communities that are designed to enhance the quality of life and the development of children and youth. They aid in the social, emotional, educational and physical development of children and youth. Irving will be supporting their Health and Wellness Recreational Programming.
Clean Annapolis River Project- Annapolis Royal, NS
CARP is a charitable, community-based, NGO (1990) that works with communities and organizations to promote awareness about, and to foster the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of the marine and freshwater ecosystems of the Annapolis River watershed. CARP's vision, "an ecologically healthy Annapolis River watershed," is achieved through their mission "to restore and protect the ecological health of the Annapolis River watershed through science, leadership, and community engagement.” Irving will be supporting their Rural H20 Initiative providing groundwater awareness and monitoring.
